Fishing Report for the Week Ending 6/13/15
After another week of wet weather, cooler temps, gusty winds, and afternoon showers and storms, it appears as though we will see a drying trend with warmer and less windy conditions for the upcoming week. The present flow out of Ruedi on the Frying Pan is 285cfs. And Ruedi Reservoir is 92% full and rising. Last week, the Bureau aggressively increased the flows on the Pan to allow room in the reservoir and to simulate a "mini" runoff on the Pan. On Saturday 6/6/15, the flows peaked at 650cfs, then dropped by 100cfs per day to 230cfs. Then they bumped it back up again to the present level at 285cfs. It looks like it will stay this way for some time. Visibility is great as the water is clear. However, make sure you're flies are "clean" after every couple of casts as there is a plethora floating and submerged debris in the upper portions of the river. Since the freestones in the area like the Roaring Fork, Arkansas, Crystal, and Colorado Rivers are experiencing full runoff, and people are generally starting their summer vacations, fishing pressure has been super high along the full length of the Pan. Overall, the Pan is fishing very well right now although it is experiencing increased fishing pressure due to the fact that the conditions are "extremely difficult" on other rivers in the area. The midge fishing has been decent mid-morning and again in the late afternoons, with a few smaller mayflies mixed in on overcast days. As far as flies, fish small midge and bwo patterns in sizes 20-24. On cloudy days, look for risers in the calmer sections starting in the mid-afternoon.
