"Quotes"

"If you live long enough, shits gonna happen!" Eddy Vedder, Ottowa, ON  9/14/11

"Well, you're either gonna fish a place or you're not, and if you're going to, then you've got to get in the water." Jay Walden.

"Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like bananas." Ray Smalls

According to Richards et al. (1980:57), “the fisherman should never position himself upstream from rising fish or a run he wants to fish.  Instead, he should set up at an angle slightly below the target zone so he does not alert the fish of his presence by dislodging stream bottom material.”

“It has often been our experience that trout appear able to take and release an imitation lacking the soft, pliable feel of a natural faster than a person can wink an eye (Richards et al 1980:58--Stoneflies).”

Johnny Utah from his blog, “I am a firm believer that simple is best when it comes to effective flies for trout…”

I always like to think the best ones haven’t been found, but I was born in the wrong time; I belong in a different era. Whatever the mountain range, the best ones have all been found; if they are ruined, then the next best are found, and so on. Then the last one. That’s the age I live in, the age of the last things- last of this, last of that. The last good thing. (Johnson, 2005, p. 84)”

“The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing. (Johnson, 2005, p.75)”

Some of these flies are standard Holston patterns, some are proven fish getters and some are experimental.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
